Justice for Pooley: Sports Minister Assures Kotoko Fans of Accountability

In a meeting with officials from Asante Kotoko, Sports Minister Kofi Adams has pledged that those responsible for the tragic death of devoted supporter Francis Frimpong Pooley will face justice, regardless of their status.

Pooley was fatally stabbed during a heated clash between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC in Nsoatre, marking a dark moment in Ghana’s football landscape during Week 19 of the top-flight league.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the football community, leading to swift action from law enforcement. Seven individuals have been arrested, including Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the bankroller of Nsoatreman FC, who is currently under a movement restriction order imposed by the District Court “B” in Sunyani.

“We will not merely condemn this incident and move on,” Minister Adams assured the Kotoko officials during their meeting on Friday. “We are actively working with the Inspector General of Police and taking regular updates. The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation, and anyone found responsible for Pooley’s death, irrespective of their position, will be held accountable. This is a matter of principle, and we aim to set a precedent that deters future incidents.”

The devastating event has prompted the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to temporarily suspend league matches while convening with all 18 Premier League clubs to discuss measures to prevent violence in the stadiums. In addition to the arrests, six players from Nsoatreman FC have been formally charged with misconduct and unsporting behavior.

As the football community mourns the loss of Francis Frimpong Pooley, the call for accountability resonates louder than ever. The Minister’s commitment to justice signals a crucial step toward ensuring a safer environment for all fans, as Ghanaian football navigates this difficult chapter.
