GFA and Police Service Hold Meeting On Introduction Of Sports Security Modules At Police Training Schools

The Ghana Football Association and the Ghana Police Service held a consultative meeting on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Police Headquarters to start the processes of developing a new Sport Safety and Security training Modules as part of training of new police recruits in the area of Sports Policing.

As announced by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) during the joint meeting between the Police and the GFA with Premier League clubs on Wednesday February 5, 2025, the Ghana Police Service shall immediately introduce sports policing as part of the curricular for the training of new Police recruits.

In a follow up, the Head of Competitions and a Certified Safety and Security trainer for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Julius Ben Emunah held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the National Police Training School to finalise the content and modules to be introduced as part of the training.

In attendance were ACP Mike Baah – Commanding Officer, National Police Training School (NPTS), Chief Supt Charles Asiamah Agyei – Director HR Department (Headquarters), DSP Richard Wieking Welleh-Staff Officer NPTS, ASP Festus Addo in Charge of Training at the NPTS and Chief Inspector Kwadwo Mensah – Instructor NPTS.

The meeting discussed the various contents proposed by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Football Association, which will form a Standard Manual for the use by all training instructors in all the six Police Training Schools in Ghana.

Julius Ben Emunah and Captain (Rtd) Nick Owusu another CAF Certified Safety and Security trainer shall conduct a series of Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop for selected Instructors in the coming days as part of the process.
The Ghana Police Service will also benefit from the training under the CAF Safe Stadium programme when the GFA host it later in September 2025.

The GFA and Ghana Police Service are fully committed to this development and have agreed to ensure that the current recruits at the Police Training Schools receive practical training by working at matches by the Police on duty before graduating.
