GoldBod Generates $2.7 Billion From Gold Exports in Four Months, President Mahama Discloses

President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that Ghana earned $2.7 billion in revenue from gold exports between January and April 2025, following the rollout of the GoldBod initiative.

According to the President, the revenue was generated through exports by GoldBod.

Speaking at the Global Mining Summit held on Monday, June 2, President Mahama noted that the initiative forms a central pillar of his administration’s gold mining sector reforms, aimed at ensuring maximum national benefit from Ghana’s mineral wealth.

“The Goldbod, a key pillar in my administration’s strategy to reform the gold mining sector and ensure maximum benefit for Ghanaians from our gold resources, has taken off. In its short existence, it has sanitised the gold sector, ensuring maximum returns from our gold exports,” President Mahama stated.

He noted that the projected revenue from gold exports is expected to increase steadily throughout the year as more players in the sector adopt the new framework.

“Ghana’s gold export through the GoldBod earned the country $2.7 billion between January and April, and this figure is expected to increase exponentially throughout the year,” he added.

The Goldbod initiative, introduced earlier this year, is part of a broader strategic policy direction aimed at combating illegal mining (galamsey), enhancing transparency in gold trade transactions, and improving institutional oversight along the gold mining value chain.

President Mahama emphasised that reforms within the sector have not only boosted export earnings but also enhanced regulatory compliance and monitoring, positioning Ghana to better harness the benefits of its mineral resources.

The Global Mining Summit brought together stakeholders from across Africa’s mining industry to discuss sustainability, regulatory frameworks, and value addition within the continent’s mineral-rich economies.
