GWCL to find solutions to imminent water supply challenges during the dry season

Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has said it will adopt strategic measures to solve the imminent water supply challenges during this dry season.

In a press statement, the GWCL indicated that the it has taken note of the erratic flow of water in some parts of the country especially in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Western, and the Northern Regions and has therefore assured consumers that it is on top of the situation and is doing everything possible to ameliorate the situation.

GWCL added that, during the dry season consumers resort to the use of treated water for keeping lawns green, for commercial washing of vehicles among others as well as consumers with greater dependence on rainwater have also compounded the problem by taking to the use of  treated water.

“During dry season, consumers resort to the use of treated water for keeping lawns green, for commercial washing of vehicles etc.

“Currently the dry season is on and consumers with greater dependence on rainwater have also compounded the problem by taking to treated water use. These practices ease the pressures in the pipelines thereby causing low pressures and no flow of water in some areas, especially the hilly areas”, the statement added.

In the quest of finding solutions to the situation, the company cited that the cease of indiscriminate watering of lawns with treated water, moderate use of treated water for car washing by resorting to the use of buckets, instead of hosing, among others could help contain the situation until the rains are back.

“The GWCL has currently resorted to water demand management to ensure equitable distribution of the little water currently being produced at the various treatment plants. All District Offices have been requested to announce to customers on days when water will be flowing so consumers can store some water”, it noted.
