Karim Zito Calls Kotoko’s Loss to Vision FC a Valuable Wake-Up Call Ahead of FA Cup Final
Asante Kotoko’s interim manager, Abdul Karim Zito, views his team’s surprising 3-1 defeat to Vision FC as an important wake-up call ahead of their upcoming MTN FA Cup final against Division One side Golden Kicks. The match, held at the Nii Adjei Okraku II Complex in Tema, marked the final day of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
Despite the loss, Kotoko secured a top-four finish in the league, ending with 58 points, which puts them level with rivals Hearts of Oak. The final league standings will hinge on the outcome of a postponed match between Nations FC and Basake Holy Stars.
Zito chose to focus on the positives from the defeat, emphasizing its potential benefits for the upcoming cup final. “The positive side of this game is a wake-up call for the finals. I’m not too worried because winning won’t give me the title, but it will put me in a better position,” he stated after the match. He expressed his belief that the loss would allow him to rearrange his players effectively for the final.
With the FA Cup final set for June 15 at the Legon Sports Stadium, Zito is determined to secure a trophy for Kotoko to cap off the season. Following the league title loss to GoldStars, who clinched their first league championship, the FA Cup represents a crucial opportunity for redemption.
