Ken Ofori-Atta’s Lawyer Slams OSP Over Medical Report Claims
Legal counsel for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Frank Davies, has strongly refuted claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that it has not received a medical report explaining Mr Ofori-Atta’s absence from scheduled appearances.
The OSP, in a statement issued on 2 June, accused the former minister of failing to produce supporting documentation to justify his health-related absence, describing his conduct as an act of bad faith.
However, speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Friday, 6 June, Mr Davies described the OSP’s assertions as “blatantly false,” maintaining that the medical report had been duly submitted and formed part of legal documents filed before the court.
“I have said, time without number, that, for the OSP to say that he hasn’t sighted that medical report is a blatant falsehood, and it is unfortunate that he is holding such a public office,” Mr Davies stated.
He explained that the medical report in question was included in the bundle of documents filed in court on 27 May 2025, ahead of a hearing on 28 May, and was properly served on the OSP.
“The processes that were filed in court on May 27, 2025, pursuant to the application that was heard by the court on May 28, the medical report was in the bond that was served on the special prosecutor. Unless he doesn’t read his court processes thoroughly,” he added.
Mr Davies expressed dismay over what he termed a lack of due diligence on the part of the OSP and warned against the spread of misinformation on matters currently before the courts.
Describing the situation as “distressing,” he noted, “So, for him to come and say that he hasn’t seen any medical report is a blatant falsehood. And as an officer of the court, I find it distressing.”
He further urged public institutions, particularly the OSP, to exercise professionalism and ensure accuracy in their public communications, especially on legally sensitive matters involving individual rights and reputations.
The standoff between the legal team of the former finance minister and the OSP adds another layer of controversy to the ongoing probe, which has already generated significant public interest.
