Kenya Airways has said it will restart operations on the Nairobi-London route on June 26 following the travel restrictions lifted by Kenya.
The Chief Customer and Commercial Officer of Kenya Airways, Julius Thairu, said in a statement said the resumption of flights to London is part of the airline’s growth plan and expansion of routes.
This will impact Kenya’s economy positively since it will allow for more trade and tourism in the country and across the region by offering convenient travel across the world.
The Kenyan and UK government have both issued health protocols that travellers are expected to adhere to on resumption of the flights.
The two governments have stated that passengers travelling to the UK must be of British or Irish nationalities or have residence rights in the UK.
They must have a negative Covid-19 certificate three days before travel, book a quarantine hotel package within 14-days before arrival and take two Covid-19 tests if they have been in a country or territory on the red list 10 days before travelling to the UK.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling to Kenya from the UK are expected to have a negative Covid-19 PCR test certificate conducted within 96 hours before arrival; this excludes children below five years. They must self-isolate for seven days upon arrival and subsequently take a PCR test four days after arrival.
Travellers are required to submit daily health information, including the second PCR test on the Jitenge, a web-based platform available as an android mobile application for 14 consecutive days.
Kenya banned flights from the UK, effective April 9, this year, as retaliation to a move by the UK to add the country to its travel “Red List.”
