Kenya’s Central Bank Makes Changes to Currency Notes
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has made some changes to the country’s currency banknotes.
Per a press statement issued by the CBK, the currency banknotes affected by the changes include fifty shillings (KES 50), one hundred shillings (KES 100), two hundred shillings (KES 200), five hundred shillings (KES 500) and the one thousand shillings (KES 1,000).
The changes, the CBK further notes in its statement released on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, comprise the signature of the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr Kamau Thugge, the year of print – 2024 as well as new security threads with colour changing effects that are specific to each denomination.
According to CBK, the release of the new banknotes will commence with the KES 1,000 while the other denominations will progressively follow in the coming months.
