CAF Concludes Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop in Accra

The CAF Safe Stadium Initiative workshop wrapped up its three-day program in Accra, aimed at enhancing stadium safety and security across African football. Held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters, the workshop gathered a diverse group of participants, including key figures from the GFA and safety officials from various clubs.

Notable attendees included Eugene Noel Noble, GFA Executive Council member; Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary; COP Lydia Donkor, Director General of the Police CID; and John Ansah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA). These leaders emphasized the importance of safety in football, especially given the growing popularity of the sport.

The workshop saw participation from Safety and Security Officers of all 18 Premier League clubs, members of the GFA Security Committee, and 16 Regional Sports Police Officers. Over the course of three days, participants underwent rigorous training covering crucial topics such as CAF Safety and Security Regulations, Accreditation and Access Control, Crowd Management Techniques, and security protocols for pre-, during-, and post-match scenarios.

Led by CAF security experts Xololi Nokithula Vilakati from Eswatini and Sylvanus Obi from Nigeria, the workshop aimed to standardize safety measures across the continent to prevent stadium-related tragedies. CAF’s initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that every football event, from local league matches to continental competitions, is hosted in secure environments.

As football continues to draw immense interest, the CAF is dedicated to creating safe experiences for fans, teams, and stakeholders alike. At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants were awarded certificates, marking their achievement and readiness to implement the learned safety protocols.
