President Akufo-Addo Commends France and China for Crucial Debt Relief Support

In a gesture of diplomatic gratitude, President Akufo-Addo of Ghana has commended the French and Chinese governments for their pivotal support in the country’s external debt restructuring efforts.

At a recent event held at the French Embassy in Accra, President Akufo-Addo underscored the crucial involvement of these nations in securing the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) balance of payment support, an essential component of Ghana’s economic stabilization strategy.

The President highlighted the significant contributions of both France and China, key members of the Paris Club, in expediting the debt exchange process.

“The Paris Committee, whose official creditor committee is co-chaired by France and China, has executed commendable work in bringing a resolution to Ghana’s debt restructuring in record time,” stated President Akufo-Addo.

He expressed his personal appreciation to President Emmanuel Macron of France and President Xi Jinping of China for their instrumental roles.

This collaboration marks a strategic partnership aimed at overcoming Ghana’s financial hurdles.

The President emphasized that the sustained cooperation between Ghana and France remains vital for the nation’s developmental aspirations, portraying this alliance as a cornerstone in driving Ghana’s progress and achieving its long-term economic objectives.
