Kurt Okraku Celebrates Growth of Women’s Football in Ghana
Following the successful hosting of the Women’s Football Festival, Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku expressed his satisfaction with the progress of women’s football in the country over the past five years.
The festival, which crowned the champions of the Women’s Premier League and the Women’s FA Cup, attracted a large crowd of supporters, football executives, and families, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for women’s sports in Ghana. In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, Okraku highlighted the significance of the event, which saw Police Ladies face off against Ampem Darkoa in the Women’s Premier League final, while Faith Ladies competed against Jonina Ladies for the FA Cup.
Despite heavy rain, the atmosphere remained vibrant as Police Ladies and Faith Ladies emerged victorious, lifting their respective trophies. Okraku noted that the event’s extensive media coverage, including live streams on television and social media, marks a significant improvement compared to the previous decade.
“The level of competition and the enthusiasm displayed by the clubs and fans, who braved the rain to support women’s sports, is truly exciting,” Okraku said. “This investment in female sports is beginning to yield fruits.”
Additionally, the GFA presented two buses to Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa for their impressive performances as champions in their zones of the Women’s Premier League during the 2023-2024 season.
