Kwesi Nyantakyi reveals his greatest achievement as Ghana FA boss
Kwesi Nyantakyi considers the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2006 World Cup as his most significant accomplishment during his tenure as Ghana Football Association (GFA) President.
It was Ghana’s first-ever appearance at the global tournament, and Nyantakyi views this feat highly. The Black Stars went on to qualify for two additional World Cups before Nyantakyi departed from the football scene.
In an interview with Starr FM, Nyantakyi emphasised, “Qualifying for the World Cup in Germany was my greatest achievement.”
Ghana have participated in four World Cups, with their latest appearance being in the 2022 edition held in Qatar. However, it was under Nyantakyi’s leadership that the country ended its long wait for qualification, making it a memorable moment for him and the nation.
Nyantakyi resigned from his positions as GFA President and various other football roles, including CAF Vice President and FIFA Executive Council member, following allegations of bribery and corruption violations. He was initially banned for life by FIFA, but the ban was later reduced to 15 years upon appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in October 2020.
