Fuel Prices Edge Up as NPA Raises Minimum Price Thresholds for Petroleum Products
Fuel prices at the pumps have edged up marginally following a new directive from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) setting revised minimum price thresholds for petroleum products across the country.
Under the latest pricing window, the price floor for petrol has increased from GH¢9.80 to GH¢9.99 per litre, representing a rise of about 1.94%. Diesel recorded a steeper adjustment, with the minimum price moving from GH¢10.47 to GH¢10.95 per litre, translating into an increase of approximately 4.58%.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is now subject to a minimum price of GH¢9.05 per kilogram.
The NPA directive requires that no Oil Marketing Company (OMC) or LPG Marketing Company (LPGMC) sells petroleum products below the approved price floors. According to the regulator, the measure is aimed at curbing excessive price undercutting and promoting stability and fair competition within the downstream petroleum market.
Market checks at selected fuel stations show that prices at the pumps remain above the newly announced thresholds. State-owned GOIL is currently selling petrol at GH¢10.24 per litre, while diesel is retailing at GH¢12.53 per litre.
Among private operators, StarOil Ghana is also selling petrol at GH¢10.24 per litre, with diesel priced at GH¢11.97 per litre.
The revised price floors are expected to influence pricing strategies among OMCs in the current pricing window, even as global oil prices, exchange rate movements and domestic taxes continue to shape fuel price dynamics.
