Resetting Ghana’s Economy Will be a Tough Journey – Dr. Ishmael Yamson

Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has cautioned that the task of resetting Ghana’s economy, as pledged by President John Dramani Mahama, will be a difficult undertaking.

According to Dr. Yamson, the economic rebuilding process will be fraught with risks and frustrations from both internal and external forces. However, he expressed optimism that with President Mahama’s determined leadership and the support of Ghanaians, the initiative will ultimately yield positive results.

Speaking at the National Economic Dialogue on Monday, March 3, under the theme “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together,” Dr. Yamson stressed that the majority of the country’s economic difficulties are homegrown and largely self-inflicted.

He asserted that while these challenges are significant, they can be overcome through collective efforts by both the government and the citizens.

“The sad truth is that the overwhelming majority of our problems are homegrown and self-inflicted. Only our leaders and the people of Ghana can and must resolve these issues. Let us take responsibility for resetting our destiny with our own hands,” he emphasized.

Dr. Yamson urged Ghanaians to actively participate in shaping the country’s economic future, underscoring the need for unity and determination in navigating the difficult path ahead.

“The journey to reset Ghana will not be easy. It will be rough, full of risks and frustrations from within and outside. However, with the determined leadership you have promised and the ownership you take, you shall succeed,” he said.

He further reassured that many Ghanaians are ready to stand by the government and contribute to achieving its bold economic vision.

The National Economic Dialogue serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for Ghana’s economic transformation, focusing on sustainable policies to drive growth and development.
