La Liga: “Everyone is hungry to score goals” – Flick on Barcelona’s Dominant Win Over Sociedad
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed his satisfaction with the “hunger and mentality” of his players following a commanding 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday. The win propelled Barcelona back to the top of the La Liga standings, with 57 points from 26 matches, one point ahead of Atletico Madrid and three clear of rivals Real Madrid.
The match showcased Barcelona’s offensive prowess, with goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo, and Robert Lewandowski. The team’s attacking display left no doubt about their intentions as they dominated the game, especially after Sociedad was reduced to ten men.
“It’s the style we want to play,” Flick said post-match. “Our first thought is always about the offense. We want to pass always. Everyone is hungry to score goals, and today we were in the right positions to capitalize on our chances.”
Flick also addressed concerns about midfielder Gavi’s absence from the starting lineup, revealing that Gavi had experienced illness prior to the match. “He felt a little bit ill and had a fever yesterday, so we decided it was best not to risk him,” Flick explained.
The turning point of the match came when Araujo extended Barcelona’s lead to 3-0, prompting Flick to make a triple substitution to manage player fatigue ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash against Benfica.
“The red card was one of those factors that helped us, but our overall play was dominant. The substitutions were also crucial for us to rest players,” he noted.
As Barcelona looks ahead to their match against Benfica, Flick remains cautious. “They had a week to prepare for us, so we must be careful,” he cautioned.
With this decisive victory, Barcelona not only solidified their position at the top of La Liga but also sent a strong message ahead of key upcoming fixtures in both domestic and European competitions.
