Leading Media Professionals Unite to Celebrate Newsroom Business initiative on World Press Freedom day with Young Journalists

In a remarkable show of solidarity and commitment to the future of journalism, some of Ghana’s leading media professionals have come together to inspire and mentor young journalists in celebration of Newsroom Business initiative on the World Press Freedom Day.

The distinguished lineup includes Theo Yartey, Editor- Graphic at Graphic Communications Group Ltd; Emefa Ewoenam Atiamoah-Eli, Coordinator for Strategic Partnerships and Projects- JoyBrands- MGL; Kobby Spiky Nkrumah, Head of EIB Digital; Dr. Ohene Asante, Executive Secretary – the world Technology Forum; John Kumi, Head of Department for Media Communication at Bluecrest University College; and Raymond Smith of AfriMass Network. Their collective expertise and leadership will provide invaluable insights to aspiring journalists at a special event hosted at Bluecrest University College on the Friday 2nd of May 2025 at 10am.

This initiative underscores the vital role of a free press in shaping democratic societies, fostering accountability, and empowering the next generation of newsroom professionals. Through thought-provoking discussions, mentorship sessions, and interactive engagements, the event aims to equip young journalists with the tools and principles necessary to navigate the evolving media landscape while upholding the highest ethical standards in journalism.

“As custodians of truth and transparency, we recognize the immense responsibility that comes with journalism,” said Raymond Smith of AfriMass Network “Through this collaboration, we hope to not only celebrate press freedom but also instill a deep sense of purpose in the young professionals who will carry the mantle forward.”

In 2024, 3rd May in celebration of World Press Freedom Day, AfriMass Network and partners introduced the Newsroom Business Initiative (NBI)- sustainable newsroom as a transformative project aimed at empowering young journalists, fostering newsroom mentorship, and enhancing media professionalism across Ghana’s media landscape. Through strategic collaborations, technological integration, and industry engagement, this initiative seeks to address critical challenges facing African news media outlets while leveraging journalism as a tool for socio-economic development.

The celebration of World Press Freedom Day at Bluecrest University College serves as a reminder that safeguarding press freedom requires collective effort, vigilance, and continuous dialogue. By bringing together industry leaders and emerging talents, this event sets the stage for impactful conversations and lasting connections in the media sector.
