Ghana Beat Uganda to Secure First Win at African Schools Football Championship

John Andor stole the spotlight on the opening day of the African Schools Football Championship, leading Ghana to a 2-0 victory over Uganda with a stunning brace at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Andor wasted no time making his mark, scoring just three minutes into the match. After a brilliant solo run, he finished confidently at the near post to give Ghana an early lead. The team maintained control throughout the first half, going into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

As the second half unfolded, Ghana nearly doubled their lead shortly after the restart. Emmanuel Drah made an impressive run down the right flank, unleashing a powerful shot that was expertly tipped onto the post by the Ugandan goalkeeper, keeping Uganda in the match—at least temporarily.

However, Ghana’s persistence paid off when Andor struck again, scoring his second goal from a rebound after Rockson Adjei’s initial effort was saved. This brace made Andor the first player in the tournament to achieve such a feat, highlighting his standout performance.

Despite a few missed opportunities to extend their lead, Ghana’s defense held strong, limiting Uganda’s chances and securing all three points in their opening match. The victory sets a positive tone for the tournament as Ghana looks to build on this momentum.

Ghana’s next challenge comes against South Africa on Thursday, April 24, at 11 PM, where the team will aim to continue their winning ways in this prestigious competition.
