GSE: Stock gains GHS 10.95 in share price in single trading day

New Gold (GLD), an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) sponsored by Absa Capital at the close of trading activity on Thursday, July 28, gained GHS 10.95 in share price value.

Closing stock price for the ETF was GHS 148.80, up from the opening stock price of GHS 137.85.  

The share price increment of the stock, marks a 37.02 percentage points year-to-date returns on the equity.

An exchange traded fund (ETF) is a type of security that tracks an  index, sector, commodity, or other asset, but which can be  purchased or sold on a stock exchange the same as a regular stock.

New Gold ETF (GLD), an exchange traded fund offers the opportunity to invest in gold bullion. The company issues listed instruments (structured as debentures) backed by physical gold.

Each debenture is approximately  equivalent to 1/100 ounces of gold bullion, which is held with a secure depository on behalf of investors.

The debentures are listed on the Ghana (GSE) and six other African stock exchanges.  

Access Bank, just like GLD gained in share price ending trading activity on Thursday with a share price of GHS 2.53 from an opening stock price of GHS 2.51.

However, other equities such as GOIL and Societe Generale recorded losses in share prices ending the day with share prices of GHS 1.79 and 1.06 respectively.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index (GSE-Composite Index) of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) decreased by 6.78 points to close trading at 2,518.56 points representing a YTD return of -9.71%.

The GSE Financial Stock Index  (GSE-FSI) also dropped 12.93 points to close trading at 2,102.98 points  translating into a YTD return of -2.27%.

Market capitalization for the day settled at GH¢64.38 billion.

A total of 96,168 shares valued at GH¢191,811.70 was traded on the day. Compared with the previous GSE trading day (July 27), Thursday’s data shows a 36.58% improvement in volume traded and 214.79% improvement in  trade turnover.

Access Bank Ghana PLC. (ACCESS) accounted for 65.95%  of the total value traded and recorded the largest volumes traded.
