President Mahama to Deliver First State of the Nation Address on February 27
President John Mahama is set to deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The address is in fulfillment of Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to present an evaluation of Ghana’s economic and social conditions while outlining the administration’s vision for national development.
Announcing the business statement for the upcoming week, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga reminded Members of Parliament (MPs) to adhere to established protocols for the event.
“His Excellency the President, President John Dramani Mahama, will be in this House on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution, to deliver the State of the Nation Address. Let me, with your indulgence, read Article 67: The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the State of the Nation,” Mr Ayariga stated.
He further emphasized the strict security arrangements, urging MPs to be seated by 9:15 a.m., as access to the chamber would be restricted once National Security assumes control.
“So note that once National Security takes over, no member will be allowed access into the chamber. After 9:15 a.m., it will be difficult to gain entry,” he cautioned.
President Mahama’s address is expected to touch on key national issues, including economic performance, governance, social policies, and the administration’s priorities for the year.
