Local bourse losses 100 points as Total, MTN and Cal record declines in share prices

The Accra Bourse at the end of trading activity on Wednesday, recorded a loss of 100.5 points.

The benchmark composite index, GSE-CI, following the loss closed trading at 2,585.13 points representing a year-to-date decline of 7.32%.

On the back of the loss in the GSE-CI, the GSE-FSI marginally lost 3.26 points to close trading at 2,205.98 points translating into a YTD return of 2.52%.

The decline in the GSE-CI can be attributed to the decline in share prices of three equities namely Total, MTNGH and CAL.

Share prices of the aforementioned equities declined by 0.45%, 0.08% and 0.03% respectively.

Market capitalisation of the local bourse following the loss amounted to GHS 62.75bn

In all, a total of 615,521,764 shares valued at GH¢ 566,210,012.63 was traded on the day. Scancom PLC. (MTNGH) accounted for 99.98% of  the total value traded, recording the largest volumes traded.

Trailing behind MTNGH were SIC, Republic Bank Ghana, CAL and Total as the second, third, fourth and fifth most traded equities on the stock market on Wednesday.
