Thrilling Quarter-Final Line-Up Set for CAF Champions League 2024/25 Season As Group Phase Concludes

The CAF Champions League has reached an exhilarating milestone as the quarter-final line-up for the 2024/25 season has been confirmed, following a dramatic conclusion to the group stages on Sunday. Eight of Africa’s premier clubs have secured their spots in the knockout rounds, setting the stage for fierce competition in the quest for continental glory.

In a nail-biting finale, Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the last quarter-final berth after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against FAR Rabat. This result not only highlighted the tenacity of the South African side but also completed a diverse and competitive line-up featuring clubs from six different nations, with two representatives each from Egypt and South Africa.

Group A presented one of the tournament’s most surprising developments, as Sudan’s Al Hilal topped the standings, showcasing their strength and determination. They will be joined in the knockout phase by Algeria’s MC Alger, who also performed commendably throughout the group stages.

Moroccan champions FAR Rabat displayed their credentials in Group B, finishing at the top with consistent performances. However, the late qualification of Mamelodi Sundowns keeps them firmly in the mix for the coveted title, proving that the competition is wide open.

In what many considered the “group of death,” South Africa’s Orlando Pirates emerged victorious in Group C, while record champions Al Ahly had to settle for second place. This outcome underlines the unpredictable nature of the tournament and the resilience of the teams involved.

Group D saw Tunisia’s Esperance continue their impressive form, claiming the top spot, while Egypt’s Pyramids secured a vital runners-up position. The strength of these clubs adds another layer of intrigue to the knockout phase.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for late March and early April, with the first legs taking place on March 28th and 29th. The return fixtures will follow on April 4th and 5th, promising compelling matchups that are sure to captivate fans across the continent.

Following the quarter-finals, the semi-finals will unfold swiftly, with first-leg matches set for April 18th and 19th, and the decisive second legs taking place a week later on April 25th and 26th. The tournament will culminate with a two-legged final, where the champion will be crowned on May 24th and June 1st.

The presence of continental heavyweights like Al Ahly, alongside emerging forces such as Pyramids and Orlando Pirates, suggests that the knockout phase will be anything but predictable.

As these teams vie for African club football’s most prestigious prize, the tournament’s knockout format—featuring home and away legs—ensures that only the most consistent and resilient teams will lift the trophy, promising a thrilling conclusion to this year’s competition.
