The LPG Marketing Companies Association of Ghana has announced a directive for all member companies to cease business relations with the Tema-based Quantum and Blue Ocean depots, effective Monday, August 12, 2024.
This decision, outlined in a press statement issued by the Association on August 6, 2024, marks the beginning of a series of measures aimed at safeguarding indigenous businesses and preserving jobs within the sector.
The Association emphasized that this move is critical for the protection of over 10,000 Ghanaian jobs and to secure more than $400 million worth of investments made by Ghanaians into the LPG sector over the past three decades.
Protecting Local Interests
The decision to boycott Quantum and Blue Ocean depots is seen as a protective measure against potential threats to local businesses and employment.
The Association’s statement underlined the importance of supporting indigenous enterprises to ensure their sustainability and growth in the competitive energy market.
Significant Economic Impact
The LPG sector in Ghana has been a significant contributor to the country’s economy, with substantial investments and a large workforce reliant on its stability.
The Association’s action is intended to prevent any adverse impacts on these investments and to maintain the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
Call for Solidarity
The Association called on all LPG Marketing Companies to comply with the directive and demonstrate solidarity in the effort to protect local businesses and jobs.
The move is expected to send a strong message about the importance of supporting Ghanaian enterprises in the face of challenges posed by larger foreign-owned entities.
