Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Rotterdam Open After Australian Open Triumph

Jannik Sinner has made headlines once again, this time by withdrawing from the upcoming Rotterdam Open following his impressive victory at the 2025 Australian Open.

The Italian tennis star claimed his second consecutive title in Melbourne, defeating second seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets during a thrilling final at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.

In the wake of his triumph, Sinner reassessed his playing schedule and decided to prioritize rest and recovery after two grueling weeks of intense competition. “After consulting with my team, we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. My body needs time to rest after the long run in Australia,” Sinner stated.

The 23-year-old’s absence will be felt at the Rotterdam Open, where he was the defending champion after a victorious campaign last year against Australia’s Alex de Minaur. Reflecting on his time in Rotterdam, Sinner expressed his fond memories: “I have great memories from winning the title in front of amazing crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back there soon.”

Following Sinner’s announcement, Rotterdam Open tournament director Richard Krajicek expressed his disappointment, calling it a “great shame” that the reigning champion would not be competing this year. “The Australian Open has been long and tough for Jannik,” Krajicek said. “It is a great shame for both him and us that his efforts are preventing him from participating in Rotterdam.”

With Sinner out, the field at the Rotterdam Open will be led by Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered a quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open against a hobbled Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz will be joined by other top players, including Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur, and Andrey Rublev, alongside former champions Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stan Wawrinka. Notably, Grigor Dimitrov has also withdrawn, leading to Jakub Mensik and Roberto Bautista Agut stepping in to fill the gaps.
