2026 World Cup African Qualifiers: Group-By-Group Breakdown After Matchday 6

Matchday 6 of the FIFA World Cup African qualifiers produced pivotal results, with Ghana, Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt solidifying their positions as top contenders. The latest round of matches showcased thrilling performances and dramatic twists, particularly in Groups B and C, shaping the future of several nations’ World Cup aspirations.

In Group A, Egypt secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone, thanks to Zizo’s strike just before halftime. Burkina Faso kept the pressure on with a 2-1 win against Guinea-Bissau, while Ethiopia made headlines with a stunning 6-1 demolition of Djibouti. Egypt leads the group with 16 points, followed by Burkina Faso with 11.

Group B saw DR Congo return to the summit with a composed 2-0 win over Mauritania, while Senegal matched their points total after a 2-0 victory against Togo. Sudan’s 1-1 draw with South Sudan left them in third place, complicating their qualification hopes.

In Group C, South Africa took command with a solid 2-0 away win against Benin. Nigeria’s hopes took a hit when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe, leaving them in fourth place as Rwanda and Lesotho played to a goalless stalemate.

Cape Verde edged past Angola 2-1 in Group D, while Cameroon thrashed Libya 3-1 to stay within striking distance of the top. Mauritius and Eswatini entertained with a thrilling 3-3 draw, highlighting the competitive spirit of the group.

Morocco continued their flawless run in Group E with a 2-0 win over Tanzania, maintaining their perfect record and leading the group with 15 points.

In Group F, Cote d’Ivoire regained the top position after a 1-0 victory over Gambia, while Burundi exploded with a stunning 5-0 win against Seychelles, climbing to third place.

Algeria showcased their dominance in Group G, with a commanding 5-1 victory over Mozambique, highlighted by a hat-trick from Mohamed Amoura. Uganda also secured a 1-0 win against Guinea, keeping their hopes alive.

Finally, in Group H, Tunisia left it late to secure a 2-0 victory over Malawi, while Namibia settled for a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea. Liberia edged past Sao Tome and Principe with a 2-1 victory, enhancing their qualification prospects.

Ghana further solidified their position in Group I with a 3-0 win over Madagascar. This victory puts Ghana at the top of the group with 15 points, ahead of Comoros and Madagascar, who are both vying for a crucial spot in the World Cup.
