Ghana and Zambia Deepen Economic Cooperation with Air Services, Visa Waiver Agreements
Ghana and Zambia have signed a bilateral air services agreement to allow direct flights between the two countries, a move expected to strengthen trade relations, boost tourism and enhance people-to-people exchanges.
The agreement was announced at the Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue held in Lusaka on Friday, February 6, 2026, as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s three-day state visit to Zambia.
Speaking at the forum, President Mahama said the deal, together with a visa waiver arrangement between the two countries, would significantly improve connectivity while reducing the cost of travel and trade.
“Partnership in execution will determine our success. I am encouraged by the agreements we have signed during this state visit, which include the visa waiver that will allow citizens of the two countries to travel visa-free in either country, and the bilateral air services that will allow direct flights between Zambia and Ghana,” he said.
According to the President, the agreements would enhance mobility and facilitate the movement of goods, capital and people, creating a more enabling environment for business and investment.
“All these will improve connectivity between our people, reduce transport cost, and facilitate the movement of goods and capital between our countries,” he added.
The bilateral air services agreement forms part of broader efforts by both governments to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen diplomatic relations. It is also expected to open up new opportunities for businesses, investors and tourism operators by making travel between Ghana and Zambia faster and more affordable.
The Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue brought together public and private sector stakeholders from both countries to explore opportunities for expanding trade, investment and private sector collaboration.
