Ghana Armed Forces Commence Deployment of Military to Support Peaceful Elections
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the deployment of personnel to strategic locations across the country in support of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The move, announced on Friday, aims to bolster security and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
The GAF, in a statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, assured the public that military personnel will not be stationed at polling stations.
Instead, their role will be strictly limited to providing standby support, with operational deployment activated only upon request by the police.
“This collaborative approach ensures that the elections proceed smoothly while maintaining law and order,” the statement read, underscoring that primary responsibility for election security rests with the Ghana Police Service.
The deployment comes amid heightened focus on ensuring a credible and peaceful election in a politically charged environment.
GAF further urged citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly and to cooperate with security personnel. It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding stability and sovereignty while contributing to a secure electoral process.
The statement by GAF seeks to reassure the public as Ghana prepares for a pivotal election tomorrow that will shape the country’s political trajectory.
