President Mahama Pledges Full, Transparent Probe into August 6 Military Helicopter Crash
President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Armed Forces will conduct a full and transparent investigation into the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several military personnel on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the nation from the Jubilee House on Thursday, August 7, the President spoke publicly for the first time since the tragedy, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending condolences to the bereaved families.
“As we mourn, questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and important,” President Mahama said, acknowledging growing public demand for answers.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth, assuring that “no detail would be concealed” in the probe. “I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this crash,” he stated.
The President’s remarks coincide with the start of a three-day national mourning period from Thursday, August 7, in honour of the victims, whom he described as “national heroes.”
Ghanaians are expected to lay flowers and light candles from Thursday through Saturday, with the commemorations culminating in a national memorial event at the State House on the evening of Saturday, August 9.
