Mahama Promises to Rationalize Port Fees and Stabilize Cedi in Manifesto
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), has committed to rationalizing port fees and introducing measures to stabilize the cedi, as part of his party’s broader economic strategy.
Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch in Winneba on August 24, Mr Mahama outlined plans to alleviate the financial pressures on businesses by streamlining the complex and often prohibitive charges at the nation’s ports.
“We will rationalize port fees and charges, and measures to stabilize the cedi and macroeconomic environment,” he remarked.
Mr Mahama also addressed the persistent depreciation of the cedi against the dollar, a key concern for businesses and consumers alike.
He pledged to implement targeted measures to stabilize the currency, reinforcing the macroeconomic environment and fostering greater confidence in the Ghanaian economy.
In a further signal of his economic priorities, Mr Mahama reiterated his intention to restore the licenses of banks that were unjustly revoked during the controversial financial sector cleanup.
This move is intended to rebuild trust in the financial system and provide a more stable foundation for economic growth.
