Manny Pacquiao Announces Boxing Comeback at Age 46
Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has officially announced his return to the ring at the age of 46, nearly four years after his last fight. The Filipino icon is set to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19 in Las Vegas, aiming to reclaim his status as boxing’s oldest welterweight world champion.
“I’m back,” Pacquiao declared on social media. “Let’s make history.” This comeback comes after Pacquiao previously held the record for the oldest welterweight champion when he defeated Keith Thurman in 2019 at 40 years old.
The WBC recently reinstated Pacquiao into their rankings at number five, fueling speculation about his return. WBC president Mauricio Suliman defended the decision, stating, “Pacquiao has been licensed by Nevada and passed all medicals. As a legendary WBC champion, he has been approved to fight by our organization.”
Pacquiao’s last appearance in the ring was in August 2021, where he lost a decision to Yordenis Ugas. Throughout his illustrious career, he has captured 12 world titles across eight weight classes and boasts an impressive record of 62 fights, 54 wins, eight losses, and two draws.
Since retiring from boxing, Pacquiao has been involved in politics in the Philippines, although he recently fell short in his bid for a Senate seat.
