Market value of the Ghana Stock Exchange fall by more than half a billion cedis

Market capitalisation of the Ghana Stock Exchange [GSE] at the close of last week fell in value by Ghs 538 million

Despite the fall in market value, the stock market ended trading on Friday with a market capitalisation of Ghs 64.84 billion representing a growth of 19.26% in 2021. 

The fall in market capitalization was the result of a decline in the benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) which ended the week with a 51.44 points drop to close at 2,919.56 points translating into a YTD return of 50.37%.

On the previous day – Thursday –  the benchmark GSE closed trading with 3,000.63 points translating into a YTD return of 54.54% with a market value of GH¢65.69 billion and representing a growth of 20.82% in 2021. 

Over the week, a total of 11.03 million shares valued at GH¢15.07 million were traded; an increase of 86.89% in volumes traded and 112.71% in values traded as compared to the previous week.

The gainers were GoiI and Cal Bank whereas the decliners were Total and MTNGh

MTNGh Ied the pack of five equities that emerged as the top traded equities over the week recording the most trades and accounting for 82.34% of the total value traded. 

For the five top traded equities, Standard Chartered emerged last with volume and value traded of 51,305 and Ghs 1,043,854.25 respectively
