McDan Aviation Refutes $3 Million Debt Claim, Criticises GACL’s Restriction of Terminal Access
McDan Aviation, a subsidiary of Ghana’s McDan Group, has criticised the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) for restricting access to its Fixed Base Operator (FBO) terminal, describing the move as “unexpected” amid ongoing negotiations.
In a statement, Kwaku Ampronfi, McDan Aviation’s chief executive, said the decision was “regrettable,” particularly as the company continues to address its financial obligations to GACL. The aviation firm disclosed that it had made substantial payments in the past and settled an additional tranche last week, with further payments scheduled to resume in January 2025.
The company dismissed claims that it owes $3 million to GACL, calling the reports “erroneous.” McDan Aviation also pointed to a separate legal dispute involving land acquired from GACL, which is under litigation due to third-party claims. It said payments related to the land acquisition have been suspended pending the outcome of court proceedings.
“It is regrettable that GACL has chosen to take this line of action, particularly when the matters at hand are not interconnected,” said Mr. Ampronfi.
McDan Aviation has however, reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with GACL to resolve the issues, emphasising its intention to work towards an amicable resolution despite the operational challenges.
