Andre Ayew misses penalty as Forest fall to 3-1 defeat against Spurs
Nottingham Forest captain Andre Ayew was left ruing a missed opportunity to score his first goal for the club as they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
The Ghanaian forward, who missed a crucial penalty in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals against Uruguay, saw his late spot-kick saved by Fraser Forster, leaving Forest to suffer their 14th defeat of the season.
Tottenham’s talismanic striker Harry Kane was the star of the show, scoring twice to take his tally to 20 league goals for the campaign. The England international opened the scoring with a header from Pedro Porro’s delivery before converting a penalty after Joe Worrall fouled Richarlison.
Son Heung-min added Spurs’ third, directing the Brazilian’s cross into the bottom corner, while Worrall pulled a goal back for Forest with a powerful header.
The result leaves Nottingham Forest in 14th place, with their cushion over the bottom three being reduced to just three points. As the season enters its final stretch, the club’s financial prospects will be increasingly scrutinised, particularly given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on football finances.
With relegation a real possibility, the club will be hoping for a change in fortunes to avoid a potentially costly drop down to the second tier of English football.
