Mid-Year budget presentation deferred to July 31 amid Parliamentary dispute

The eagerly anticipated mid-year budget presentation in Parliament to be delivered by Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, has been deferred to July 31, 2023.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 25, the presentation was marred by a haggle in Parliament last Friday over the proposed date. The government sought to hold the budget address on Thursday, July 27, leading to a legislative impasse.

In accordance with Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and Regulation 24 of the Public Financial Management Regulations (L.I. 2378), the budget review has now been rescheduled to Monday, July 31.

This decision comes in the midst of discussions to ensure proper adherence to legislative protocols.

The mid-year budget presentation is a significant review of the government’s 2023 Economic Policy and Financial Statement, initially presented to Parliament on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
