Military Personnel Under Investigation for Alleged Assault on Civilians in Kumasi
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving seven military personnel—three officers and four soldiers—who reportedly arrested and physically assaulted three civilians in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025.
According to preliminary reports, the incident stemmed from accusations of mobile phone theft. The civilians involved are said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Military Police, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), is conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter. In the meantime, the accused officers and soldiers have been placed under closed arrest as investigations proceed.
In an official statement, the Military High Command assured the public that any personnel found culpable would face legal consequences. It also urged the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the findings of the investigation.
