Minister-Designate for Communication Assures Improved Telecom Services, Warns of Sanctions for Non-Compliance
Minister-Designate for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has assured Ghanaians that telecom operators (telcos) will be allocated additional spectrum to enhance service quality under his leadership.
Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 30, Mr. George, however, cautioned that telcos failing to improve network performance despite receiving support would face sanctions.
“I will not be a minister who will be afraid to impose a fine when MNOs fail to provide the quality of services required, and we will support them to provide the best quality of service,” he stated.
He reiterated his commitment to holding telecom operators accountable while ensuring that Ghanaians receive reliable and efficient mobile network services.
The Minister-Designate emphasized that while the government would assist operators in upgrading infrastructure, penalties would be enforced for issues such as call drops, slow internet speeds, and poor connectivity.
Additionally, Mr. George pledged to create a regulatory environment that fosters innovation and technological advancement, positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
