UAE Retains Position as Ghana’s Top Export Destination in Q2 2024; Exports Value Hit GHS 15 Billion

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has maintained its status as Ghana’s leading export market for the second quarter of 2024, with exports valued at GH₵15.0 billion, representing 23.3% of total exports, according to data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

Switzerland ranked as the second-largest destination for Ghanaian exports, accounting for GH₵13.2 billion (20.5%), followed by South Africa at GH₵8.3 billion (12.9%).

On the import side, Ghana’s trade was dominated by gas oil and motor spirit super, valued at GH₵7.3 billion and GH₵7.2 billion respectively, together contributing nearly a quarter of the country’s total import bill of GH₵58.8 billion.

China remained the top source of imports, with goods worth GH₵12.3 billion (20.9% of the total), while the UAE followed closely at GH₵9.1 billion (15.4%) and the United Kingdom with GH₵5.2 billion (8.8%).

The Export and Import Unit Value Indices (UVIs) reported a sharp 40.5% increase in export prices, largely driven by surging gold prices, while import prices rose by 18.9% year-on-year, reflecting broader inflationary pressures on key commodities.
