Mobile voice subscription penetration rate reaches 132%

Mobile voice subscription penetration rate in the country according to the National Communications Authority (NCA) reached 132.03 percent in the month of August 2021.

A report by the Authority indicates that voice subscriptions at the end of August totalled 41,486,196 representing a percentage decrease of 0.81% from July 2021’s figure of 41,825,055 voice subscriptions.

According to the regulator, MTN’s voice subscriptions for the period was 23,449,452 representing a percentage decrease of 0.33% from July 2021’s figure of 23,527,225. MTN’s market share of voice subscriptions for the month under review, the NCA notes was 56.96%.

Vodafone Ghana’s mobile voice subscriptions decreased from 9,608,090 as at the end of July 2021 to 9,413,261 as at the end of August 2021. This represents a percentage decrease of 2.03%. The telecom giant’s market share for August 2021 was 22.86%.

For AirtelTigo which is now fully owned by the government, voice subscriptions decreased from 7,537,514 as at the end of July 2021 to 7,461,031 as at the end of August 2021 indicating a percentage decrease of 1.01%. AirtelTigo’s market share for the month under review was 18.12% as compared to 18.16% in July 2021.

Meanwhile, voice subscriptions of Glo increased from 836,198 as at the end of July 2021 to 845,326 at the end of August 2021. With a percentage increase of 1.09%, Glo’s total market share for the month under review was 2.05%.

MTN commands 67.7% market share of mobile data subscription 

According to the NCA, MTN commands 67.71 percent of total mobile data subscriptions in the country.

The regulator asserts total mobile data subscriptions at the end of the month of August 2021 totalled 23.2 million of which 15.7 million were MTN-based mobile data subscriptions.

For Vodafone, the total number of mobile data subscriptions at end-August 2021 was 3.3 million reflecting a market share of 14.47%.

AirtelTigo for the month under review surpassed Vodafone which has the second-largest customer base in the country with total mobile data subscription of 3.7 million representing a market share of 16.14%.

Glo was the network with the least mobile data subscription as it recorded total data subscription of 391,885 at the end of August 2021 indicating a market share of 1.68%.
