Mohamed Salah Makes History with Third PFA Player of the Year Award

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year for an unprecedented third time, solidifying his status as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats. The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in the Egyptian’s illustrious career.

Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017, was instrumental in the club’s success last season, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and contributing 18 assists. His remarkable performance helped Liverpool secure the league title, finishing 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

This season, Salah has achieved a rare feat by winning not only the PFA Player of the Year award but also the Premier League Player of the Season and the Golden Boot for most goals scored. He is the first player to clinch all three awards in the same season, showcasing his all-around excellence on the pitch.

“It’s something I will never forget,” Salah expressed in response to his latest accolade. He topped a competitive six-man shortlist that included notable players such as his Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Salah’s first PFA award came in 2018 during his debut season at Liverpool, and he claimed his second in 2022. This latest recognition further cements his legacy in English football.

In other award announcements, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals and adding four more in the Champions League, including a hat-trick against Celtic. Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey received the Women’s Player of the Year award, having netted nine league goals and contributing to her team’s Champions League triumph.

Additionally, Canadian forward Olivia Smith, who was Liverpool’s leading scorer last season, won the Young Player of the Year award and made headlines by transferring to Arsenal for a reported fee of one million pounds, becoming the first female player to break the seven-figure barrier.

Liverpool had a strong presence in the Premier League Team of the Year, with four players, including Salah, recognized for their outstanding performances. As the PFA celebrations continue, Salah’s historic achievement will undoubtedly inspire future generations of footballers.
