Mohamed Salah Nominated for PFA Player of the Year Award
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been nominated for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, highlighting his exceptional performance during the previous season. The announcement came on Friday, with Salah among six standout players on the shortlist.
The 33-year-old Egyptian star played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph, netting 29 goals and providing 18 assists throughout the season. His remarkable contributions earned him the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year award, where he secured nearly 90% of the votes—marking the largest winning margin this century.
Joining Salah on the PFA shortlist are his Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 season, was a surprising addition to the list, especially given his struggles with Chelsea last season. Meanwhile, Rice enjoyed a standout season with Arsenal, scoring a career-high nine goals and contributing 10 assists across 52 appearances.
Isak proved instrumental for Newcastle, scoring 23 goals as the team qualified for the Champions League and ended a 56-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup. Fernandes, despite Manchester United’s challenging season—their worst top-flight campaign since 1973-74—managed to shine, tallying eight league goals and 10 assists.
The PFA awards ceremony is set to take place in Manchester on August 19, where the winner will be announced.
