GoldBod to Begin Local Gold Refining in October 2025

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced plans to commence local processing and refining of gold from October 2025, in a move aimed at deepening value addition in the country’s mining sector.

Speaking at the 2025 Minerals and Mining Convention in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Gyamfi, said the initiative forms part of the board’s broader expansion strategy to ensure more of Ghana’s gold is refined domestically before export.

He disclosed that GoldBod is collaborating with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to engage accredited local refineries for the exercise. The partnership, he explained, is expected to strengthen the gold value chain, boost state revenues and consolidate Ghana’s position as a competitive player in the global bullion market.

“This is a significant milestone in our quest to retain more value from Ghana’s natural resources. Refining gold locally before export will not only enhance revenue but also create jobs and ensure stronger linkages with other sectors of the economy,” Mr. Gyamfi stated.

The initiative is anticipated to reduce dependence on foreign refining facilities, cut processing costs, and improve investor confidence in Ghana’s mining industry.

Analysts note that the move aligns with government’s agenda to increase local participation in the extractive sector and promote sustainable resource management.
