MultiChoice Ghana Agrees to Reduce Subscription Fees for DSTV, Given 14-day Deadline to Reveal New Prices

Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has confirmed that MultiChoice Ghana has agreed in principle to reduce its subscription prices but is seeking a 30-day window to determine the scale of the cuts.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Mr Sam George insisted that the process could be concluded within a fortnight. “I believe that we do not need 30 days. Fourteen days is enough for us to reach this decision, inclusive of weekends,” he said.

The Minister disclosed that a stakeholder committee has been constituted to oversee the discussions, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Communications, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Ghana and its parent company, MultiChoice Africa.

The committee, which has until September 21, 2025, to deliver a revised pricing structure, will be chaired by the Communications Minister.

The intervention comes after weeks of regulatory pressure on the satellite television provider. On August 4, 2025, the NCA demanded a detailed cost breakdown of MultiChoice’s bouquet prices in Ghana and seven other African markets.

The company’s failure to comply triggered a GH¢10,000 daily fine from August 14, 2025, alongside a 30-day suspension notice effective August 7, 2025.
