Transport Fares to Remain Unchanged Despite Fuel Price Reduction, Minister Affirms
Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured the public that transport fares will remain unchanged for the time being, despite recent declines in fuel prices.
His remarks come amid growing public pressure for fare reductions, particularly following past instances where transport unions pushed for increases in response to rising fuel costs.
Addressing the issue, Mr. Nikpe stated that fare adjustments are determined by a structured formula and are subject to ongoing discussions with transport unions and operators.
“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” he said.
The Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the transport sector through collaboration with key stakeholders. He reassured commuters that fares will remain unchanged for now, pending further evaluations.
“We are in good touch. We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured that prices will be kept for some time before any of the adjustments will be made,” Mr. Nikpe added.
The Ministry’s position reflects an effort to strike a balance between providing relief to commuters and ensuring the financial sustainability of transport operators.
While discussions on possible fare reviews continue, the government remains committed to a structured approach to fare adjustments.
