Napo Resigns As Energy Minister

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO, has resigned from his position as Energy Minister.

The announcement follows his selection as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accepted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation, effective July 18, 2024, enabling him to focus on his new role in the forthcoming election campaign.

In an official statement, Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, conveyed President Akufo-Addo’s gratitude for Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s dedicated service.

Highlighting his “stellar record of accomplishments” in both the education and energy sectors, Mr Arhin noted the significant contributions Dr. Opoku Prempeh has made during his tenure.

In response to the resignation, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Hon. Abu Jinapor, the current Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and MP for Damongo, to assume Cabinet oversight responsibility for the Ministry of Energy.
