National Economic Dialogue to Tackle Ghana’s Economic Challenges Begins Today
The National Economic Dialogue (NED), a high-level forum aimed at fostering engagement among key stakeholders to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges, commences today, Monday, March 3, 2025.
The two-day forum, running from March 3 to 4, will serve as a platform for discussions between the private sector, academia, public policy institutions, and civil society organizations.
Participants will deliberate on key thematic areas, including:
- Achieving sustainable macroeconomic stability
- Promoting economic transformation
- Advancing infrastructure development
- Implementing structural reforms
- Ensuring private sector-led growth
- Restoring good governance and combating corruption
The NED aligns with President John Mahama’s campaign pledge to foster inclusive decision-making in economic policy formulation.
The Economic Dialogue is expected to produce actionable recommendations that will inform government policies and strategies aimed at achieving long-term economic stability and growth.
President Mahama is set to deliver the keynote address on the theme, “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”
Meanwhile, there are considerations to institutionalize the National Economic Dialogue as a permanent feature of Ghana’s economic governance.
Professor John Gatsi, a member of the NED planning committee, disclosed in an interview with NorvanReports that discussions are ongoing to embed the dialogue within the country’s economic management framework.
“There is some proposition to see whether we can make the economic dialogue part of economic governance so that there is engagement with key stakeholders from time to time. This would ensure continuity in our economic management efforts if agreed upon,” Prof. Gatsi noted.
