National Security Picks Up 3 Officials of McDan Group Following Warehouse Demolition
Three senior officials of the McDan Group have reportedly been detained by National Security operatives following the demolition of a warehouse under construction along the Spintex Road in Accra.
The facility, which was still under development, is said to be linked to Ghanaian businessman and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr Daniel McKorley.
Sources close to Citi News indicate that the officials were picked up shortly after the incident, which occurred on a site that has now been declared a “National Security Zone” by uniformed personnel stationed in the area.
It remains unclear what precipitated the demolition, as details surrounding the legal status of the land and any prior engagements between the Group and State authorities are yet to be disclosed.
The incident, which occurred earlier on Wednesday, sparked tensions when armed military officers reportedly assaulted a bystander who was granting an interview to a JoyNews reporter at the site. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with military personnel allegedly using force to disperse media and civilians present.
In a related development, JoyNews journalist Carlos Calony was allegedly picked up by National Security operatives while covering the aftermath of the demolition. The circumstances surrounding his detention remain unclear.
The McDan Group is yet to comment publicly on the development, but an official statement is expected in the coming days.
Industry watchers are closely monitoring the situation, given the Group’s significant investments across logistics, aviation, salt mining, and real estate sectors.
