NewGold gains GHS 33.80 in share price; closes at GHS 221 on Thursday

In the Ghanaian stock market, Benso Palm Plantation Plc. (BOPP) experienced a modest gain of GH¢0.11, closing at GH¢14.11, while NewGold (GLD) saw a more substantial increase of GH¢33.80, closing at GH¢221.00. However, Societe Generale Ghana PLC. (SOGEGH) witnessed a slight decline of GH¢0.01, closing at GH¢0.59.

The overall market capitalization also experienced a decrease, falling by GH¢1,370.73 million, and closing the day at GH¢65.88 billion. A total of 85,957 shares were traded across fifteen equities, with a total value of GH¢619,674.40. Scancom PLC. emerged as the most actively traded stock, with 54,524 shares valued at GH¢59,431.16, representing 9.59% of the total value traded. Societe Generale Ghana PLC. (SOGEGH) followed closely, trading 18,563 shares valued at GH¢10,955.58, accounting for 1.77% of the total value traded.

Turning to the benchmark indices, the GSE-Composite Index, representing the overall performance of the Ghana Stock Exchange, experienced a minor decline of 0.31 points, closing at 2,510.98 points. This represents a year-to-date (YTD) return of 2.74%. On the other hand, the GSE Financial Stocks Index recorded a more significant decline of 1.23 points, closing at 1,676.12 points, reflecting a YTD return of -18.34%.

Overall, the Ghanaian stock market showed mixed performance, with certain stocks experiencing gains while others faced declines. The market capitalization decrease and the decline in the benchmark indices indicate a level of volatility and uncertainty within the market. Investors will closely monitor these trends and assess the factors influencing the stock market in Ghana.
