Nicaragua 0-1 Ghana: Black Stars secure narrow win as Issahaku scores

The Black Stars of Ghana narrowly defeated Nicaragua 1-0 in an international friendly at the Estadio Artes Carrasco De Lorca, Spain on Tuesday.

The Black Stars who were looking to redeem themselves after being beaten 3-0 by Brazil, couldn’t get much of the ball as Nicaragua begun on somehow a good note.

Having had more of the ball in the early stages and also looking well organized defensively in the opening 30 minutes, Nicaragua made it difficult for Ghana to penetrate through their backline.

Ghana finally scored on the 34th minute through Abdul Fatawu Issahaku- who delivered a thuderous trademark curler from the edge of the box to keep the game at 1-0 before halftime.

Back from recess, the Black Stars returned with an early corner kick and nearly doubled their lead but Mohammed Salisu’s header from Kyereh’s delivery landed on the roof of the post.

Alidu Seidu cut in nicely from the right, and went in for a drive but was piled out to a wasted corner kick.

Nicaragua got their first clear cut chance of the game after Moreno crafted in a nice cross but went straight at the throat of Richard Ofori.

Ghana scored again on the 64th minute after Kudus Mohammed tapped into the net from Inaki’s cross but was flagged off for an offside.

After the recess, the Black Stars kept pushing for a second goal as Mohammed Kudus was denied twice by the offside flag after putting the ball into the net.

The Black Stars were presented with several opportunities to increase their lead but were unable to, finishing the game with a 1-0 win and bringing an end to their international break.

Ghana will face Switzerland in November just before their first group game against Portugal in the World Cup.
