Ghana Premier League Update: Kotoko Closes Gap As Vision FC Stun Gold Stars At Home

As the season approaches its climax, Asante Kotoko has reignited their title hopes with a vital win, while league leaders Gold Stars faced a stunning upset. Meanwhile, Accra Lions climbed out of the relegation zone, and defending champions FC Samartex continued to assert their dominance. With only five matches left, every point is crucial as the race for the championship and the fight against relegation intensify. Here is a wrap of all the action on Matchday 29.

Kotoko Edge Past Aduana FC to Keep Title Hopes Alive

Asante Kotoko has reignited their title ambitions in the Ghana Premier League, closing the gap at the top to just three points after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Kwame Poku’s decisive strike in the 26th minute secured the win for the Porcupine Warriors, who remain in fourth place but are now just three points behind leaders Gold Stars with five matches left in the season. Aduana FC, on the other hand, sits 11th with 38 points after 29 games.

Vision FC Stun Gold Stars in Major Upset

In a surprising turn of events, league leaders Gold Stars faced a significant setback, losing 2-0 to Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex. Edward Agyemang struck first in the 55th minute, followed by Edmond Asante’s goal in the 86th minute, lifting Vision FC to 14th place and four points clear of the relegation zone. Despite the loss, Gold Stars remain atop the standings with 53 points, but this defeat raises questions about their title defense.

Second-placed Nations FC missed a chance to capitalize on Gold Stars’ slip, falling 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea. The only goal of the match came from Stephen Amankona, who converted a penalty in the 29th minute. Chelsea’s win lifts them to 8th place, while Nations FC remains just two points behind the league leaders.

FC Samartex 1996 Maintain Strong Finish

Defending champions FC Samartex 1996 continued their strong finish to the season with a commanding 3-0 home victory over Basake Holy Stars. Baba Musah Hamadu opened the scoring early, and Emmanuel Mammah added two more goals to seal the win at the Nsenkyire Arena. Samartex currently sits in 5th place with 45 points, while Holy Stars hover dangerously close to relegation in 12th.

Legon Cities’ Survival Hopes Diminish

Legon Cities’ fight against relegation took another hit after a 1-0 loss at home to title-chasing Heart of Lions. Christian Agyenim Boateng’s first-half goal consigned Cities to their 18th defeat of the season. With only 25 points, they remain firmly rooted in the bottom three, while Lions are now tied on points with Kotoko in third place, just three points off the top.

Karela United’s Troubles Deepen

Karela United’s struggles continued with a 2-1 home loss to Dreams FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. First-half goals from Abdul Razak Salifu and Joseph Esso gave Dreams a solid lead, while Malik Abubakar’s late goal for Karela wasn’t enough to salvage a point. Karela remains in the relegation zone, while Dreams consolidate their mid-table position.

Accra Lions Climb Out of Relegation Zone

In a crucial match, Accra Lions temporarily climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium. Second-half goals from Jacob Awoute and Bernard Kesse secured important points for the Lions, who started brightly and managed to control the game. Bechem United will reflect on missed opportunities, including a disallowed goal for offside.

Medeama SC Returns to Winning Ways

Medeama SC celebrated a dominant 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium. Kamaradini Mamudu scored twice, and captain Fatawu Sulemana added another to ensure a comfortable win for the Mauve and Yellow. Medeama’s commanding performance lifts them to 5th place with 44 points, while Young Apostles face challenges as they drop to 13th.

With only five games remaining in the season, the race for the title and the battle against relegation promise an exciting climax in the Ghana Premier League.
