Non-oil exports reached $9.8 billion in 4 months, says Egypt’s Minister for Trade

Egypt’s non-oil exports grew 11% to $9.8 billion during the first four months of 2021, compared to the $8.853 billion in the same period of 2020, Daily News cited Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea.

On the other hand, the company’s imports leveled up 5% to $23.13 billion during January-April 2021.

Ismail Gaber, Chairperson of the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), said that the largest sectors among Egyptian exports during the period include: medical industries, with a value of $236 million compared to $148 million during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 60%.

The handicrafts sector came in second place with a value of $93 million compared to $61 million, an increase of 53%. 

The engineering industries, accounted for a value of $969 million compared to $655 million, an increase of 48%, while the leather and shoe industry valued at $28 million compared to $20 million, an increase of 40%.  

The garments accounted for a value of $586 million compared to $433 million, an increase of 35%.

Four countries accounted for 30.1% of total Egyptian exports, including the US which accounted for $676 million of Egypt’s total exports, followed by and Saudi Arabia with a total of $633 million. Meanwhile, Italy accounted for $586 million of Egyptian exports, and Malta accounted for $406 million.
