NSA Boss Pledges to Revive Ghana’s Abandoned Sports Infrastructure
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has announced a comprehensive initiative aimed at retrieving and reviewing documents related to uncompleted and disputed sports infrastructure projects across Ghana. His comments come in response to the ongoing challenges faced by the country’s sporting facilities, notably the long-abandoned Ho Sports Stadium.
In an interview on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Ampofo Ankrah emphasized the new NSA administration’s commitment to transforming the narrative surrounding poor sports infrastructure. “We need to ascertain what works were awarded in the past and to whom,” he explained, highlighting that many properties under the NSA remain undocumented or disputed.
Ampofo Ankrah stressed the importance of accountability and the need for systemic changes to ensure that contracts are executed properly. “It’s bigger and deeper than just the pitch looking terrible. New structures and policies are being put in place to ensure that individuals or companies entrusted with contracts are held accountable,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing renovations at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium, led by NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong, as part of a broader effort to ensure all sports infrastructure under the NSA is either completed or restored to proper standards.
